Street Life – In the Stretch of Water
Reading of Joseph Mitchell (USA) by François Tizon (France)

Street Life is the start of an autobiographical project begun at the end of the 60s, which was never completed. The thirty-one final years of Joseph Mitchell’s life were dominated by a long literary aphasia. These several pages of text – published posthumously – nevertheless examine the city of New York, then the childhood and nature in such a striking way that it leaves us plagued by an unsettling sense of comprehensiveness.
