Readings by Poésie par Chœur (France)
presented on 27 June 2015 at La Vieille Loye (France)
Three-voice readings of Nii Ayikwei Parkes’s novel (Zulma editions, 2014) translated to French by Sika Fakambi. Nii Parkes assembled his particular English dialect using the languages of the Bight of Benin, somewhere between the popular pidgin and fictitious language of an old hunter, Yao Poku. The French by Sika Fakambi speaks from somewhere else entirely. It speaks of “our somewhere”, which may originate inside us, as does our language, telling stories of humanity.
