80 years ago, the French anthropological museum “Le Musée de l’Homme” in Paris published a peculiar, restricted journal entitled “Acéphale”. Its promoters included Georges Bataille, Pierre Klossowski, Michel Leiris and Andre Masson. They wished to counter the rise of fascism in Europe, with its worship of simplistic, totalizing explanations. Acéphale is also the name of a secret society which was founded simultaneously with the magazine, and which met in the Marly Forest until the war.
