Katsura Yamauchi was born in Japan in 1954. He started playing the saxophone in the 1970’s, but it was only in 2002 that he became a professional musicians and started developing his own voice, a personal combination of minimalism, improvisation, and more melodic elements. His reputation grew quickly beyond Japan, as he played and recorded with musicians such as Michel Doneda, Günter Müller, Norbert Möslang, Otomo Yoshihide, Sachiko M, and Han Bennink.
