About a thousand years ago, the Charcoal Burner Brotherhood began in the Chaux Forest, put in abeyance in 1850. A century and a half later, the Association of Chaux Forest Villages revived this movement by creating the “Carbone 14” group, responsible for transmitting this heritage and know-how to future generations.
